Pick the times tables your child is working on, choose a picture, and the generator builds a fresh coloring sheet every time. Each shape holds a multiplication fact, and the answer tells you which color to use. Download it as a free printable PDF, or color it straight in the browser.

Every sheet is different, so the same picture can be used again next week with new facts. An answer key page is included, which makes marking a class set quick.

How it works

1. Choose your times tables. One table or a mix — anything from 1 to 12. There are shortcuts for the easy tables (2, 5, 10), the middle set (3, 4, 6) and the tricky ones (7, 8, 9).
2. Pick a picture. Seventeen to choose from, including a butterfly, a lion, a rocket, a dinosaur and a turkey for Thanksgiving.
3. Color it on screen. Tap an answer in the strip, then tap the shapes it belongs to. Press Check my colors and the sheet marks itself, so a child can work through it alone — no printer and no answer key needed. The button on the drawing opens it full screen.
4. Download the PDF. One page to color, one page of answers. Print in color, or tick “print color names” so the sheet still works from a black & white printer.

For teachers: printing a class set

Tick Print a class set in the Options box and set how many sheets you need. The generator builds them all into a single PDF — thirty sheets take about three seconds — and you choose what changes from one sheet to the next.

• Same picture, new sums on every sheet. Every child works a different set of facts. Because the finished picture is identical on all of them, one answer key marks the whole class.
• Same picture, three ability levels mixed in. A third of the sheets on 2, 5 and 10, a third on 3, 4 and 6, a third on 7, 8 and 9, dealt out in turn. The sheets look identical, so no child can tell which set they were given — and one answer key still marks all thirty.
• A different picture every time. The only mode that stops a child copying the colors straight off a neighbour. The trade-off is one answer key per picture instead of one for the class.

Keeping the facts inside what you have taught

Facts up to in step 1 sets the largest multiplier. Two weeks into the 4 times table, set it to 6 and every sheet stays inside 4 × 1 to 4 × 6. Leave it at 12 for the whole table.

Sending a sheet to a colleague

Copy link copies a web address that reopens the generator with the same tables, picture and settings, ready to share in a staffroom group or a planning doc. Every printed sheet also carries a QR code in the top corner that leads to the same place, so a photocopy that has been handed round still leads back to the tool.

Why color by number helps times tables stick

A plain worksheet asks a child to recall a fact and move on. A color by number sheet asks them to recall the fact, hold the answer in mind, find it in the key, and act on it. That extra step turns passive recall into something closer to retrieval practice, and the picture gives immediate feedback — a wrong answer usually looks wrong.

It also lowers the stakes. Children who freeze at a page of sums will often work through thirty facts without noticing, because the task in front of them is coloring, not testing.

Working on one table at a time?

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no email required. Make as many sheets as you like.

Can I print it in black and white?

Yes. Tick “print color names” and the name of each color is printed under its swatch, so the key still works without a color printer.

Does it come with answers?

Every download includes an answer key page showing the finished picture, so you can mark a set at a glance. A class set of thirty comes with one key, not thirty, because every sheet built from the same picture colors in exactly the same way. You can turn the key off if you would rather the child not see it.

Can every child get a different sheet?

Yes. Tick “print a class set”, choose how many sheets, and each one is built with its own set of facts. They all come down as one PDF.

Can I give different children different levels?

Yes. Choose “same picture, three ability levels mixed in” and the set is split between the easy, middle and tricky tables. Because the picture is the same, the sheets look identical and no child can tell which set they were given.

Can I limit the facts to the part of the table we have covered?

Yes. Use “facts up to” in step 1. Set it to 6 and every table on the sheet runs only from × 1 to × 6.

Can I send a sheet to someone else?

Yes. “Copy link” gives you an address that reopens the generator with the same tables and picture, and every printed sheet carries a QR code to the same place.

Which times tables can I use?

Any combination from 1 to 12. Pick one table to drill it, or mix several to review.

Will I get the same sheet twice?

No. The facts and the colors are reshuffled every time, so the same picture gives a new sheet on each download.

What ages is this for?

It suits roughly ages 7 to 11, or Years 3 to 6. Start with the 2, 5 and 10 tables and add the harder ones as recall improves.
